New Delhi: The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on Thursday said details regarding participation in the upcoming BRICS Foreign Ministers’ Meeting and the proposed visit of US Secretary of State Marco Rubio to India would be announced at an appropriate time.
Speaking during a media briefing in New Delhi, MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said India, as the current chair of BRICS, is preparing to host several important meetings in May. However, he stopped short of confirming the final list of participating leaders and countries.

India is scheduled to host the BRICS Foreign Ministers’ Meeting on May 14 and 15 as part of its 2026 BRICS chairship. Jaiswal stated that invitations had already been sent to BRICS member countries, partner nations and several other invited states.
He added that information related to confirmations, participation and attending leaders would be shared later. According to diplomatic sources, several countries are expected to send senior representatives for the discussions.
Russia has already indicated that Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov will travel to India for the BRICS meeting. Iran is also expected to participate, with reports suggesting that Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi may attend engagements linked to the summit.
BRICS currently includes Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, Egypt, Ethiopia, Indonesia, Iran, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates. The grouping focuses on political, economic and strategic cooperation among emerging economies.
India’s BRICS presidency this year is guided by the theme “Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability.” Officials say the agenda reflects India’s emphasis on people-centric development and stronger multilateral cooperation.
The MEA also refrained from confirming details regarding the proposed visit of US Secretary of State Marco Rubio. When asked whether a Quad Foreign Ministers’ meeting would be held during the visit, Jaiswal said official information would be shared in due course.
US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor recently said Washington values its expanding partnership with New Delhi and remains committed to strengthening bilateral ties further.
