Akhilesh Yadav slams BJP over PDA reservation
Lucknow: Samajwadi Party (SP) president Akhilesh Yadav launched a fierce attack on the BJP and the Yogi Adityanath government on Tuesday, accusing them of systematically undermining the rights of Backward Classes, Dalits, and Minorities (PDA) in Uttar Pradesh.
At a press conference held at the SP headquarters in Lucknow, Akhilesh released the party’s “PDA Reservation Audit Report”, calling it evidence of the government’s “blatant plunder” of constitutional rights. He alleged that, unable to abolish reservations openly, the BJP is adopting indirect measures to dilute them in employment and recruitment processes.
“PDA Reservation Under Systematic Attack”
Akhilesh said the audit report exposes irregularities in the state’s reservation system and reflects the government’s biased policies. He warned that forcing youth and students to approach the courts for their constitutional rights is a clear sign of governmental partiality.
“Any government that shows bias is inherently treacherous,” he stated. “If the ‘bulldozer’ approach is to be used, it should be directed against inequality, discrimination, and the systematic looting of reservation rights, not against marginalized communities.”
BJP’s Anti-Reservation Agenda Since 2014
Highlighting the intentions of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, Akhilesh reminded that reservations were enshrined in the Constitution to ensure equal opportunities for deprived sections of society. He claimed that the BJP, since coming to power in 2014, has been openly pursuing policies to weaken the reservation system.
Akhilesh accused the government of deliberately restricting marginalized communities to manual labor, allowing dominant social groups to maintain control. “The rights of the PDA community are being ignored in recruitment and employment processes,” he said.
“Reservation is a Constitutional Right, Not Charity”
Defending the Samajwadi Party’s efforts during his tenure, Akhilesh emphasized that reservation is a constitutional entitlement, not a handout. He pointed to initiatives such as expressway construction, laptop distribution, and employment generation as steps for the upliftment of marginalized communities, while alleging that political attempts were made to suppress the party’s ideology.
SP to Keep Adding Data to Reservation Audit Report
Akhilesh announced that the SP will continue updating the PDA Reservation Audit Report with fresh figures and evidence, asserting that the document serves as a clear exposé of the government’s anti-reservation agenda.
