The all-party meet called by the government this morning, on the eve of the monsoon session of Parliament, turned out to be fiery and aggressive. At the outset, the Opposition boycotted in protest and later rejoined the all-party meet.

The customary all-party meet called by the government was to build consensus on the session schedule, including a list of key bills for discussion and passage.

The meeting, at Parliament House complex, was called by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiran Rijiju and Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal, and others failed to work out a consensus, with both the government and opposition sticking to their agenda and strategy.

Opposition walked out of the customary all-party meets, protesting over the invite to the rebel Trinamool Congress (TMC) members whose merger has not been recognised by Speaker Om Birla so far.

As soon as the meeting chaired by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh started, the Opposition MPs(Congress, SP, AAP, TMC, JMM, Left parties) objected to the presence of rebel group leader Sudip Bandopadhyay in the meeting, as well as the decision on allowing six Shiv Sena(UBT) MPs to join Shiv Sena, and walked out. However, later they joined the meeting.

Congress Rajya Sabha deputy leader Pramod Tiwari said the Opposition decided to walk out of all party meets to protest the Speaker's decision on rebel MPs of TMC and Shiv Sena.

The all-party meet also saw the rebel TMC MPs blasting the opposition, particularly the TMC of Mamata Banerjee.
