Srinagar: BJP youth leader and Baramulla Prabhari Bilal Parray has launched a sharp attack on Congress leader Rahul Gandhi over the party's recent focus on the Gen-Z movement amid the ongoing political dispute over the Election Commission and the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.
Parray accused the Congress of trying to give a political colour to the Gen-Z narrative and questioned Rahul Gandhi's attempt to connect the youth movement with the Opposition's campaign against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
The political confrontation intensified after Rahul Gandhi and several INDIA bloc leaders stepped up their campaign against the Election Commission over the SIR exercise. The Opposition has raised concerns over changes and deletions in electoral rolls and has demanded accountability from the poll panel.
Against this backdrop, Rahul Gandhi's use of Gen-Z-focused messaging has attracted considerable political attention. BJP leaders have questioned whether the Congress can genuinely claim to represent India's younger voters through such campaigns.
Bilal Parray criticised the Congress approach and alleged that the party was attempting to manufacture a Gen-Z movement for political purposes. He questioned the Opposition's strategy of presenting its electoral-roll campaign as a broader youth-driven movement.
The SIR exercise has emerged as one of the biggest political flashpoints between the ruling BJP and the Opposition. Congress and other INDIA bloc parties have repeatedly raised concerns over the electoral-roll revision process and demanded greater transparency from the Election Commission.
The Opposition's campaign has included protests, public meetings and political outreach aimed at highlighting alleged concerns surrounding voter-list changes. The BJP, however, has rejected the Opposition's allegations and maintained that electoral-roll revision is part of the established election process.
The dispute has also brought Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar into the centre of the political debate, with Opposition parties stepping up their demand for his resignation.
Parray's criticism comes at a time when political parties are increasingly focusing on Gen-Z voters and younger Indians ahead of upcoming elections. The younger generation has become an important political constituency, particularly because of its growing presence on social media and digital platforms.
The BJP leader attempted to turn the spotlight back on the Congress by questioning its political messaging and accusing Rahul Gandhi of using the Gen-Z label to strengthen the Opposition's campaign.
The Congress, meanwhile, has continued to highlight electoral rights, voter participation and concerns over the revision of electoral rolls as key issues in its political campaign.
The latest confrontation shows how the political battle over SIR is moving beyond Parliament and traditional electoral issues. Both sides are now attempting to connect the controversy with young voters, social media audiences and the wider public debate around democracy and elections.
For the BJP, Parray's remarks are part of a broader effort to challenge the Congress narrative and question Rahul Gandhi's outreach to younger voters. For the Opposition, the SIR controversy remains a major issue involving electoral transparency and voter rights.
With the Election Commission controversy continuing to dominate political discourse, the battle over Gen-Z messaging could become another important front in the BJP-Congress confrontation.
