DK Shivakumar to be Karnataka next CM
Bengaluru: In a major political development in Karnataka Politics, Siddaramaiah has resigned from the post of Chief Minister, paving the way for a leadership transition in the state.
According to reports, the Congress high command’s much-discussed “50-50 formula” is now being implemented, under which Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar is the next Chief Minister.
The developments unfolded on Thursday morning during a breakfast meeting held at the Chief Minister’s residence in Bengaluru, where Siddaramaiah informed his Cabinet colleagues of his decision to step down. The announcement triggered immediate discussions over the next leadership in the state, with reports indicating that Shivakumar has emerged as the consensus choice.
As per the reported arrangement, the Congress leadership had earlier agreed on a rotational power-sharing formula for a five-year term. Under this understanding, Siddaramaiah would serve as Chief Minister for the first two-and-a-half years, followed by DK Shivakumar taking charge for the remaining term.
Sources further suggest that Siddaramaiah himself proposed Shivakumar’s name during the meeting, a suggestion that was reportedly accepted by ministers and party legislators. However, the official date for Shivakumar’s swearing-in ceremony has not yet been announced.
Following his resignation, Siddaramaiah is expected to visit Raj Bhavan around 3:00 PM to submit his resignation formally. Since Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot is currently not available in Bengaluru, the resignation process is likely to be completed through the Governor’s office.
With the formal transition process now underway, Karnataka is set for a significant change in leadership, pending final approval and official announcements from the Congress high command.
