RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat says viewing the organisation through the BJP lens leads to misunderstanding, urges citizens from all backgrounds to dedicate one hour daily to societal and national development, highlights RSS’s 130,000 service initiatives.

Kolkata: Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh chief Mohan Bhagwat on Sunday clarified that understanding the RSS through the perspective of the BJP can cause major misconceptions. Speaking at the ‘RSS 100 Vyakhyan Mala’ programme in Kolkata, Bhagwat emphasised that the Sangh is committed to the betterment of society and the nation. He encouraged citizens to devote at least one hour every day to work for the country and social development, regardless of their political or cultural affiliations.
“People often make vague comparisons between the RSS and other organisations, and make mistakes. Our swamsevaks today are part of several organisations. Some of them are part of politics, some of them are part of power. This is the reason many see through the lens of the BJP and make a mistake. To understand the Sangh, you need to look at it and need to feel it,” Bhagwat said.
Addressing misconceptions about the Sangh, Bhagwat stated that the RSS is not just another service organisation. He highlighted that RSS swamsevaks manage nearly 1,30,000 service schemes across various organisations without receiving any government funding. Bhagwat stressed that equating the Sangh merely with service activities would be a misunderstanding of its larger mission and objectives.

Bhagwat also reiterated that the RSS works to safeguard the interests of Hindus and is deeply committed to unifying Hindu society. He explained that the organisation’s initiatives span beyond service and extend to fostering a sense of cultural and social cohesion among Hindus.
The RSS chief’s visit to West Bengal is part of the organisation’s centenary celebrations. Prior to Kolkata, Bhagwat visited Siliguri, where he addressed a seminar titled ‘Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh: A Journey of 100 Years.’ His tour includes multiple engagements across the state, hosted by local RSS units, to highlight the organisation’s century-long journey and contributions.
