New Delhi: Trinamool Congress leader Sushmita Dev on Wednesday resigned from the Rajya Sabha and announced her exit from the party, dealing another blow to the leadership of Mamata Banerjee amid growing internal unrest.
Her resignation comes just days after senior TMC leader Sukhendu Sekhar Ray stepped down from the Upper House, citing alleged corruption and misgovernance within the party.

Speaking to reporters after submitting her resignation, Dev confirmed that she had left the Trinamool Congress. She stated that there were several reasons behind her decision but chose not to elaborate, saying it was a "long story." She also refrained from making any comments against Mamata Banerjee.
Dev joined the TMC in 2021 after leaving the Congress, where she had served as president of the All India Mahila Congress. She later became a Rajya Sabha MP and one of the party's national spokespersons.
Shortly after her resignation, photographs emerged showing Dev meeting Himanta Biswa Sarma in Delhi. The meeting immediately sparked speculation about her possible political future, although no official announcement regarding a new political affiliation has been made.
The resignation comes at a difficult time for the TMC, which is battling one of the biggest internal crises in its history following its defeat in the recent West Bengal Assembly elections.

A section of party legislators has openly rebelled against the leadership, while several MPs have expressed dissatisfaction with the party's direction.
Earlier, rebel MLA Ritabrata Banerjee staked claim to the post of Leader of Opposition with the support of dozens of legislators. Separately, MP Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar claimed that a group of rebel MPs was considering aligning with the BJP-led NDA.
With back-to-back resignations, open rebellion among lawmakers and growing uncertainty over the party's future, Mamata Banerjee faces an increasingly difficult challenge in maintaining unity within the Trinamool Congress as political equations continue to shift in West Bengal.
