INDIA Bloc Meeting Today (Image: Internet)
New Delhi: A high-stakes meeting of the INDIA bloc is scheduled to take place in New Delhi on Monday, bringing together leaders from across the opposition spectrum to deliberate on the alliance’s future strategy amid mounting political challenges and emerging differences among some member parties.
The Congress has announced that representatives from 23 political parties are expected to attend the meeting, making it one of the largest gatherings of the opposition coalition in recent months. The discussions are likely to focus on strengthening coordination among alliance partners and addressing political developments across various states.
The meeting comes at a crucial time when several opposition parties are reassessing their strategies following recent electoral contests and shifting political dynamics.
Among the prominent leaders arriving for the event is Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee, who reached Delhi on Sunday. The meeting carries added importance for the TMC as it marks the party’s first major participation in an INDIA bloc gathering after its performance in the recent West Bengal Assembly elections.
The BJP’s gains in the state have intensified political debates and prompted discussions about the opposition’s roadmap ahead of future electoral battles.
While the gathering is expected to showcase opposition unity, the absence of the DMK has drawn attention. Reports suggest the Tamil Nadu-based party is unhappy with the Congress over its support for Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) following the state elections.
The Congress had contested the Tamil Nadu polls as part of the DMK-led alliance and secured five seats. The decision by the DMK to skip the meeting has sparked speculation about differences within the coalition.
Several senior opposition leaders are expected at the Constitution Club in Delhi, including Rahul Gandhi, Mallikarjun Kharge, Mamata Banerjee, Abhishek Banerjee, Akhilesh Yadav, Tejashwi Yadav and Uddhav Thackeray.
The Communist Party of India (Marxist) will be represented by Rajya Sabha MP John Brittas. However, both the DMK and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) will remain absent from the discussions.
