Political Storm Before INDIA Bloc Meet (Img: Dynamite News)
New Delhi: Ahead of the crucial INDIA bloc meeting scheduled for Monday, June 8, political tensions have intensified within the Opposition camp. While several senior leaders have already arrived in Delhi for the high-stakes gathering, internal disagreements and claims of rebellion within parties have overshadowed the show of unity.
The biggest buzz ahead of the meeting has emerged from West Bengal, where former Trinamool Congress leader Ritabrata Banerjee’s remarks have reportedly unsettled the Mamata Banerjee-led party.

Ritabrata, who is seen as leading a dissident faction, claimed that several TMC MPs are in contact with him. The statement has sparked speculation over possible cracks within the party following its recent electoral setback in Bengal.
For the Trinamool Congress and former West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, the INDIA bloc meeting is being viewed as politically significant after the party’s defeat in the state assembly elections. However, Ritabrata Banerjee’s latest claim has added to the pressure on the TMC leadership.
According to reports, the BJP government in West Bengal under Suvendu Adhikari has increased security for five rebel TMC MLAs. Until now, the alleged rebellion was largely limited to state legislators, but Ritabrata’s claim about MPs being in touch with him has widened the political implications and could strengthen the BJP’s position both in the state and at the national level.
Congress leader Jairam Ramesh said 23 political parties will attend the INDIA bloc meeting, but admitted that some allies have expressed their inability to participate due to “their respective reasons.”
The absence of the DMK and the Aam Aadmi Party has raised questions over Opposition unity. The DMK, once considered one of the strongest pillars of the INDIA alliance, has reportedly distanced itself after tensions with Congress over political developments in Tamil Nadu.
The Communist Party of India (Marxist) has also expressed displeasure ahead of the meeting. CPI(M) General Secretary MA Baby wrote to Congress leadership, objecting to remarks made by Congress leaders during the Kerala Assembly elections.

Baby alleged that Congress leaders accused the CPI(M) of having an understanding with the BJP in Kerala, calling such statements against the spirit of the INDIA alliance. The sharp exchange has further fueled concerns about internal divisions within the Opposition grouping.
Despite the tensions, several top Opposition leaders are expected to attend the meeting at Delhi’s Constitution Club. Among those likely to participate are Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav, Congress MP Rahul Gandhi, former West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, and Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Uddhav Thackeray.
With allies showing signs of discomfort and internal disputes surfacing publicly, Monday’s INDIA bloc meeting is expected to be crucial in determining whether the Opposition alliance can maintain unity ahead of upcoming political battles.
