Congress Nominates Abhishek Manu Singhvi and Vem Narender Reddy
Hyderabad: The Congress Party has announced its two candidates from Telangana for the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections. The party has renominated senior lawyer and sitting Rajya Sabha MP Abhishek Manu Singhvi. The second candidate is Chief Minister's advisor and former MLA Vem Narender Reddy.
The party believes that due to Congress's strong position in the Assembly, Abhishek Singhvi's re-election to the Rajya Sabha is almost certain.
Two Rajya Sabha seats from Telangana will soon become vacant. One of these seats belongs to Abhishek Singhvi, while the other belongs to Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) MP K. R. Suresh Reddy, whose term ends on April 9.
Congress has announced its candidates for both seats. New members will be elected to these seats through the Rajya Sabha elections.
After being nominated for the Rajya Sabha, Vem Narendra Reddy expressed his gratitude to the Congress leadership. He thanked top party leaders on the social media platform X.
He specifically thanked Sonia Gandhi, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, and MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra.
He also thanked Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, Congress General Secretary K. C. Venugopal, party in-charge Meenakshi Natarajan, Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka, and State Congress President Mahesh Kumar Goud.
Voting will be held for a total of 37 seats across 10 states in the biennial Rajya Sabha elections. Voting for these seats will be held on March 16, and counting will take place at 5 pm that day.
The terms of 37 MPs from several states, including Maharashtra, Odisha, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, Assam, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, and Telangana, are set to expire in April. Consequently, new members will be elected to fill these seats.
Political analysts believe the results of these elections could impact the strength of various parties in the upper house of Parliament.
