New Delhi: The love that the Indian Premier League (IPL) gets in India, the same love is received abroad. The IPL is not only India's but the whole world's favourite T20 cricket league. BCCI also benefits a lot from this league. In this episode, a report has come out, which shows that the IPL has made the BCCI richer.
According to a report published in the media, IPL, considered to be the most popular T20 league in the world, has contributed about 59 percent to the total earnings of BCCI in the financial year 2023-24. BCCI has earned Rs 5761 crore from IPL. Whereas BCCI earned a total of Rs 9,741.7 crore in the financial year 2023-24.
According to a media report, the BCCI earned a total of Rs 9,741.7 crore in the financial year 2023-24. Out of this, the IPL alone has earned Rs 5,761 crore. Which clearly shows that the IPL is no longer just a tournament; it has become a major source of income for the BCCI.
The IPL started in India in 2008; since then, this league has been increasing its popularity in India. In such a situation, business strategist Lloyd Mathias believes that BCCI got a 'golden hen' with the start of IPL in 2008. Mathias said that not only is it the most successful T20 league, but it also gives domestic players a chance to make a place in the Indian team.
BCCI also received some revenue from the broadcast of international matches and other domestic tournaments like the Ranji Trophy and the Duleep Trophy, but it is much less compared to the IPL. If the report is to be believed, BCCI has earned only Rs 361 crore from these non-IPL properties. Sandeep Goyal, head of Rediffusion, believes that going forward, BCCI can also earn big money from domestic tournaments like the Ranji Trophy, CK Nayudu Trophy and Duleep Trophy.
It is worth noting that for the first time in 18 years, Royal Challengers Bangalore won the IPL 2025 title under the captaincy of Rajat Patidar. The 2025 IPL was very exciting. Because those two teams (RCB and Punjab Kings) went to the final, which could not win a single trophy.
