The decision proved costly as Indian batters came out with aggressive intent and piled up a massive total of 231 runs for the loss of five wickets in 20 overs.
India opened the innings with Abhishek Sharma and captain Suryakumar Yadav. Abhishek took the attack to the South African bowlers from the very beginning, playing fearless strokes and scoring quickly.

After the early wickets, Sanju Samson tried to stabilize the innings. He played a useful knock of 37 runs, combining caution with timely aggression. However, he could not convert his start into a big score and was bowled by George Linde. By the 13th over, India had lost three wickets but remained firmly in control.
Tilak Varma anchored the innings from one end with a mature and composed approach. He rotated the strike well, found gaps consistently, and hit boundaries when required. His steady presence ensured India did not lose momentum and set the platform for a big finish.

He smashed a blistering half-century off just 16 balls, the second-fastest fifty by an Indian in T20 internationals. Pandya’s power-hitting display, filled with towering sixes and crisp boundaries, saw him score 63 runs and push India past the 230-run mark.
The Indian batters showed no mercy in the final overs, scoring heavily against wayward bowling. South Africa’s bowlers struggled with their line and length, especially at the death, allowing India to finish with a commanding total.
