Birmingham: In the first test match played between England and India in Leeds, players were seen wearing black bands. When asked about the reason, BCCI stated that the players did this in honor of former Indian spinner Dilip Doshi, who had passed away in London due to a heart attack. He was 77 years old and had played 33 Tests and 15 ODIs for India.
Paid tribute to former England player Wayne Larkins
The same tribute was observed on the first day of the Birmingham Test. This time, the players wore black bands in honor of former cricketer Wayne Larkins, who had passed away on 28 June at the age of 71. He had been suffering from a long illness, reports Dynamite News correspondent.
Larkins was popularly nicknamed 'Ned' during his playing career (1979-1991). Apart from playing the 1979 ODI World Cup final, he had played 13 Tests and 25 ODI matches.
Who was Wayne Larkins?
Larkins could not play much international cricket for England, but he played extensive domestic cricket for Nottinghamshire. In his 482-match first-class career, he scored 27,142 runs. In List-A cricket, he scored 13,594 runs in 485 matches. Larkins' total domestic career runs amounted to 40,736, including 85 centuries and 182 half-centuries.
