Hamirpur: A newly-married couple allegedly committed suicide ingesting some poison in Himachal Pradesh's Hamirpur district, police said on Friday. Preeti and Vinod Kumar had taken some poisonous substance in Behadwin village under Bhoranj sub-division on Wednesday, they said.

They both died at Indira Gandhi Medical College and Hospital in Shimla during treatment, police said. Vinod Kumar was serving as a teammate in the State Electricity Board. The couple had got married about a year ago.

Police said that after they ingested poison, their health deteriorated and they were taken to the Civil Hospital in Bhoranj. After first-aid there, they were referred to Medical College Hamirpur. Seeing their critical condition, doctors there again referred the couple to IGMC Shimla.

Suram Singh In-charge Bhoranj Police Station said that the reason behind their suicide was not yet known. Their bodies were handed over to their relatives after a post mortem, police said. A case has been registered under the CrPC and investigation launched, they said. (PTI)
