Mary Kom punches to gold on CWG debut

Gold Coast: On her debut at the Commonwealth Games, world champion M.C. Mary Kom bagged India's 18th gold medal at the Gold Coast here on Saturday.

The five-time world champion thrashed Northern Ireland's 21-year-old Kristina O'Hara in an unanimous points decision in the finals of the women's 48kg boxing category.

With the latest medal, India stand at the third spot in medals tally with a haul of 18 Gold, 11 Silver and 14 Bronze.

Elsewhere on the Day 10 of the Games, shooters Sanjiv Rajpur and Chain Singh reached the 50-metre Rifle 3 Positions Final. While doing so, Sanjeev Rajput posted a new Games record with a score of 1180, improving compatriot Gagan Narang's 1166 set in Delhi 2010.

Meanwhile, India lost to England in the bronze medal play-off encounter in women's hockey semi-final. They were outplayed by the Olympic champions rivals by a 6-0 margin.

On the other hand, the Indian men's hockey team will take on England this afternoon in the bronze medal fixture.

Olympic medallists P V Sindhu and Saina Nehwal will play their women's singles semi-final matches today. In men's singles, Kidambi Srikkanth and H S Prannoy will also look to book their place in the finals of the prestigious quadrennial event.

In Table-Tennis, Tin-Tin Ho. Sathiyan and Manika will take on compatriots Sharath Kamal and Mouma Das in the bronze-medal match. (ANI)
