Dhaka: Ex-Bangladesh skipper Tamim Iqbal underwent angioplasty after he suffered a heart attack during a Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League match in Savar city.

During Mohammedan Sporting Club and Shinepukur Cricket Club match, he was rushed to a nearby hospital after he complained of chest pain.

"Cricketer returned to us in a critical condition. We can call it a heart attack, and we subsequently did an angiogram and angioplasty to remove the blockage. The medical procedure has gone smoothly. He is currently under observation," the hospital said in a statement.

Iqbal had retired from international cricket in January this year.

He represented Bangladedh in 70 Tests and 243 ODIs.
