New Delhi: The second Surya Grahan of 2026 is already creating a buzz among astronomy enthusiasts, astrologers, and devotees alike. According to reports, the upcoming solar eclipse will occur on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, making it one of the most significant celestial events of the year.
Astronomers describe this eclipse as a major event due to its long duration and visibility across several regions of the world. Parts of Europe, Greenland, Iceland, and northern Spain are expected to witness the eclipse clearly.
Globally, the eclipse will last for several hours, making it a highlight for astronomers and eclipse enthusiasts.
Will the Solar Eclipse Be Visible in India?
Unfortunately, the August 2026 eclipse will not be visible in India as it occurs during nighttime. Since the Sun cannot be seen from India at that time, the eclipse cannot be observed directly. Consequently, Sutak Kaal—the period traditionally observed before a solar eclipse—may not apply in this case.
Why This Solar Eclipse Is Special
Beyond its scientific significance, the August 2026 Surya Grahan has captured attention for its astrological and religious importance in Hindu traditions. Falling during the Shravan month and Amavasya, it adds extra cultural and spiritual significance.
Experts also caution against looking at solar eclipses directly with the naked eye, as it can severely damage eyesight. Despite its invisibility in India, this eclipse remains a fascinating global phenomenon.
