Noida factory workers protest over minimum wage
Noida: Thousands of factory workers in Noida staged a massive protest on Saturday, demanding higher minimum wages, double overtime pay, improved safety standards, and strict action against workplace harassment.
According to Dynamite News, authorities-including the Labour Commissioner and local police-reached the protest sites to monitor and manage the situation. Despite their presence, no resolution has been reached so far.
The protest has caused major disruptions across the region, with demonstrators blocking key routes in Kulesra, Sector 82, Phase 2, and the Bhangel Elevated Road. As a result, traffic movement between Greater Noida, Noida, and Delhi has been severely affected, leaving commuters stranded in long jams across critical arterial roads.
Workers remain firm in their stance, refusing to call off the agitation until their demands are fully met. “We have been forced onto the streets. We will not move until we get justice,” protesters said, indicating that the sit-in could continue if negotiations fail.
Authorities are attempting to ease tensions and restore normalcy, but the situation remains strained. The ongoing protest has not only disrupted daily commuting but also raised concerns about labor conditions in the region’s industrial hubs.
Workers have rejected the proposals put forward so far, insisting on complete fulfillment of their demands before considering any compromise. With no breakthrough yet, discussions between officials and worker representatives are expected to continue.
The unrest was triggered after the Haryana government announced a 35 percent increase in minimum wages for unskilled, semi-skilled, and skilled workers, effective April 1, 2026-a move that appears to have intensified wage-related expectations among workers in neighboring industrial areas.
