MoU signed between AMU and Univ of York
Aligarh: Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) has signed an important Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the renowned University of York of the United Kingdom with the aim of taking academic cooperation to new heights at the global level, reports Dynamite News correspondent.
This agreement will strengthen cooperation between the two institutions in subjects like archaeology, history, environmental studies and sustainable development.
This historic agreement was signed by AMU Vice Chancellor Professor Naima Khatoon, Registrar Mohammad Imran (IPS) and Professor Hasan Imam, Chairman and Coordinator of the Center of Advanced Study (CAS) of the Department of History.
On behalf of the University of York, senior academic delegation including Vice Chancellor and Chairman Prof. Charlie Jeffrey, Head of the Department of Archaeology Prof. Nicky Milner and Head of the Department of Environment and Geography Prof. Roland Gehrels participated.
This partnership will strengthen academic and research activities between the two Universities. Under the MoU, several joint initiatives will be undertaken over the next five years, including joint research projects, co-authored academic publications, data sharing, workshops, seminars, visiting fellowships, guest lectures and student and researcher exchange programmes.
These initiatives will not only exchange academic knowledge but also provide international exposure to students and researchers, thereby expanding their research horizons.
While speaking on the occasion, Prof Hasan Imam said, "This MoU symbolises our shared research approach, especially in important areas such as history and archaeology. This collaboration will provide new opportunities to researchers from both universities and expand the reach of our research internationally."
Regarding the agreement, Dr Aftab Alam, Liaison Officer at AMU, said that this MoU is inspired by AMU's rich research tradition based on the past of South Asia. He said, "Our aim is to contribute to the solution of contemporary global challenges such as climate change and sustainable development while preserving this heritage."
Dr Adam S. Green, Liaison Officer at York University, also expressed hope about this partnership. He said, "This collaboration provides an opportunity to discuss current global issues and find solutions in the interest of society by using deep historical and archaeological data from the past. It will pave new avenues for innovation and academic prosperity."
