Ahead of Budget 2026, farmer leader Rakesh Tikait highlighted key issues affecting India’s farmers. He emphasized fair crop pricing, MSP guarantee, and subsidies for electricity, tractors, and solar panels.
New Delhi: As the budget session began, agricultural leader Rakesh Tikait expressed his views on the expectations and concerns of farmers. He stated that the budget should include special provisions for villages and agriculture. Whether farmers grow milk, fish, pottery, or crops, everyone should receive fair prices and benefits. He also emphasized increasing crop prices and the MSP guarantee law.
Tikait stated that subsidies on tractors, electricity, and solar panels could provide relief to farmers. He also demanded a complete waiver on electricity subsidies and solar connections up to 10 kilowatts. He also called for improvements in the crop insurance scheme and adequate compensation for farmers during natural disasters.
To prevent migration from hill states like Uttarakhand and Kashmir, Tikait also advised ensuring transport subsidies and access to markets. He also stressed the need for adequate compensation for land acquisition, as otherwise, farmers' protests would continue.
According to Rakesh Tikait, if these issues are not addressed in the budget, farmers' frustration could increase and protests could emerge across the country.
