Lucknow: Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav targeted the Yogi Adityanath government on several issues during a press conference in Lucknow, raising questions over the use of laptops and mobile phones by young people, education, voter lists, floods and waterlogging, and sports infrastructure in Uttar Pradesh.

With the 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections approaching, Yadav has been highlighting issues linked to the functioning of the state government as well as the SP’s organisational and electoral preparations.

Akhilesh Questions Yogi Over Laptops And Mobiles

Akhilesh Yadav questioned the reported remarks of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath concerning young people using laptops and mobile phones.

The SP chief said that viewing laptops and mobile phones as a waste of time would reflect an outdated approach towards technology. He argued that digital devices have become important tools for education, employment, business and several other activities.

Yadav said young people increasingly depend on technology for learning and professional opportunities and questioned the government’s approach towards their use.

‘27,000 New Votes’ Target In Every Assembly Seat

The voter list was another major issue raised by the SP chief. Yadav said the party had set a target for its workers to add 27,000 new voters in every Assembly constituency.

He also said SP workers would work to remove what he described as 27,000 “alleged fake votes” of the BJP. The claim is part of the SP’s political position on voter lists and electoral preparations ahead of the 2027 Assembly polls.

Yadav has previously raised concerns over voter lists and the electoral process while asking party workers to strengthen their outreach at the grassroots level.

Yadav Raises Flood And Waterlogging Issues

The SP chief also criticised the state government over flooding and waterlogging in different parts of Uttar Pradesh.

Yadav alleged that drains and embankments constructed to deal with floodwater were, in some places, contributing to waterlogging and flooding instead of resolving the problem.

He has previously raised concerns over drainage and waterlogging in areas including Gorakhpur and other parts of the state.

Focus On District And Village-Level Sports Facilities

Yadav also spoke about improving sports infrastructure at the district and village levels.

He said facilities for sports such as cricket and tennis should be strengthened so that players do not have to depend solely on major cities for training and infrastructure.

The SP chief emphasised the need to improve access to sports facilities and connect district- and village-level infrastructure with players and sporting activities.

Education System Also Under SP’s Focus

Education was another issue raised by Yadav during the press conference. He accused the BJP government of damaging the state’s education system.

The SP chief has previously raised issues concerning teachers, education workers, government schools and other aspects of the education sector. He has also spoken about the old pension scheme and issues concerning Shikshamitra and other education-sector workers.

Akhilesh Steps Up Attack Ahead Of 2027 Polls

With the Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections scheduled for 2027, Akhilesh Yadav has continued to target the state government over education, employment, voter lists, floods, waterlogging and public infrastructure.

At the same time, the Samajwadi Party is focusing on strengthening its organisation and expanding its outreach among voters across Assembly constituencies.

On the question of alliances, Yadav has recently indicated that the alliance arrangement that existed earlier would continue going forward.
