BMW XM Soundmachine Debuts at Racing Festivals
New Delhi: BMW has taken its flagship XM luxury SUV in a completely new direction by transforming it into a mobile DJ and entertainment platform called the XM Label Soundmachine. The one-off concept vehicle blends high-performance engineering with live music technology, creating what BMW describes as “The Ultimate Sound Machine.”
The specially modified SUV is based on the top-spec XM Label plug-in hybrid model, whose last known price in India stood at around ₹3.15 crore. However, the Soundmachine version carries extensive custom modifications and currently has no official price tag.
Developed by apprentices at BMW’s Dingolfing plant in Germany, the XM Label Soundmachine features a chrome exterior wrap with unique branding graphics. Its biggest highlight is the specially designed rooftop stage that allows DJs to perform directly from the moving vehicle or during stationary events.
The elevated platform is supported by four structural pillars and covered by a canopy system. BMW has also installed a large double-sided LED display measuring more than 64 square feet, making the vehicle suitable for concerts, festivals and promotional events.
The SUV carries a complete audio setup from dBTechnologies, including four large speakers and four subwoofers. Stage lighting equipment with fixed and moving lights further enhances the live event atmosphere.
Inside the setup, BMW has integrated a professional-grade Pioneer DJ system featuring a DJM-V10 mixer and two CDJ-3000 players. The equipment allows artists to mix and perform live sets directly from the vehicle.
Adding to the nightclub-style experience, four fog machines have been integrated into the wheel arches, creating dramatic visual effects during performances.
Despite the heavy modifications, BMW says the additional stage structure weighs around 1,400 kg. The total weight of the vehicle now stands at approximately 2,800 kg. Even with the added equipment, the SUV remains operational and reportedly has a TUV-approved top speed of around 15 km/h for safe low-speed event use.
Under the bodywork, the XM Label Soundmachine retains the same plug-in hybrid powertrain as the standard production model. It combines a twin-turbocharged 4.4-litre V8 engine with an electric motor and a 19.2-kWh battery pack paired to an eight-speed automatic transmission.
The setup produces 738 hp and 1,000 Nm of torque. BMW says the battery can also power the lighting, LED displays and sound system for up to one hour without the engine running.
The XM Label Soundmachine recently appeared at the Electric Mountain Festival in Solden and the 24 Hours of Nurburgring. BMW plans to showcase it again during the upcoming 24 Hours of Le Mans event.
