IPS officer Manoj Sharma appointed joint CP in Mumbai
Mumbai: In a significant move to strengthen law enforcement and administrative efficiency, the Maharashtra Home Department has announced a large-scale reshuffle, transferring over 50 IPS officers across the state.
The most notable appointment is that of Manoj Kumar Sharma—the real-life inspiration behind the popular film 12th Fail—who will now serve as Joint Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) in Mumbai.
Manoj Sharma’s Remarkable Journey
Manoj Sharma, a 2005-batch IPS officer, has become a household name thanks to the cinematic portrayal of his struggles and achievements. Hailing from Bilgaon in Morena district, Madhya Pradesh, Sharma faced early academic setbacks, failing his 12th-grade exams.
Undeterred, he worked various odd jobs, including walking dogs in Delhi, before fulfilling his dream of joining the Indian Police Service. Sharma has previously served as DCP (Zone-1) and Additional Commissioner (Western Region) in Mumbai, earning praise for his dedication and leadership.
Key Transfers in Mumbai Police
Alongside Sharma, several senior Mumbai Police officers have been reassigned:
Lakshmi Gautam, former Joint Commissioner (Crime), is now Special Inspector General of Police (IGP) for Maharashtra.
Satyanarayan Chaudhary, previously handling Law and Order, will now lead the Traffic Department.
Anil Kumbhare, who oversaw the Traffic Department, has been appointed Joint Commissioner (Administration).
Promotions and Organizational Changes
The reshuffle also includes promotions and new responsibilities for senior officers:
Nishit Mishra (Joint Commissioner, EOW) and Jay Kumar (Joint Commissioner, Administration) have been promoted to Special IGP.
Seven other Special IGP-ranked officers, including Datta Karale, Pravin Padwal, and Suvez Haque, have also been transferred.
Additional Commissioners Mahesh Patil and Paramjit Singh Dahiya, along with DCPs Dixit Gedam, Pravin Mundhe, and Krishnakant Upadhyay, have received new assignments.
Rajesh Pradhan, a 2003-batch IPS officer, takes charge as Chief of Mumbai Police’s Economic Offences Wing (EOW).
This strategic reshuffle is seen as a step toward strengthening Mumbai’s law-and-order framework and preparing the state police for upcoming administrative challenges.
