Bihar: Three of a family killed, two injured as the car falls into canal

Police said that five members of a family were traveling by a car when the vehicle lost control and plunged into a canal near Saraiya village.

Patna: At least three members of a family were killed and two others injured when their car fell into a canal in Ranitalab area here in Patna on Saturday, reports Dynamite News correspondent.

Deceased Identified

All three deceased have been identified as Nirmala Devi (52), Neetu Singh (35), and Astitva Singh (10) of Kariho village under Mahua police station area in Vaishali district.

Police Version

Police said that five members of a family were traveling by a car when the vehicle lost control and plunged into a canal near Saraiya village on Canal Road. All five occupants sustained injuries in the crash. The injured were rushed to Vikram Primary Health Centre, where doctors declared three of them dead.

Ranitab police station in-charge Pramod Kumar told reporters, "Five members of a family from Chhattisgarh were travelling in a car. The driver suddenly lost control of the vehicle, causing it to fall into the canal. Police reached the spot and took them to a nearby government hospital, where doctors declared all three dead."

Pramod Kumar said two other injured are being treated and their condition is said to be out of danger.

The bodies have been sent to the Paliganj Sub-Divisional Hospital for a post-mortem.

Last month in June at least five people were killed and 15 others injured when a pickup van skidded and overturned near Bajitpur village under Nayagaon police station area in Saran district on Monday morning.

The police said the pickup van was carrying passengers and maize to Hajipur. The driver of the van lost control following which it overturned.

Five Killed

Five passengers, including a woman, were killed in the accident whereas 15 others sustained injuries.

The injured were sent to Sonpur referral hospital for treatment. The identity of the deceased was being ascertained.

Case Registered

An FIR was lodged at the police station concerned.

Another Accident

Last month in April four people were killed and two others sustained injuries in a road accident under Bhabhua police station area in Kaimur district of Bihar.
