New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi gave a very emotional and strong reaction in a public meeting held in Darbhanga, Bihar, on 2 September. This reaction was regarding the abusive comments made against his mother during a rally of Congress and RJD (RJD). PM Modi said that he had never imagined that in a state like Bihar with a rich cultural heritage, someone could stoop so low as to abuse a mother.

In his speech, Prime Minister Modi underlined the importance of mothers and said, “Mother is our world; mother is our sanskaar.” He said that what happened in Bihar a few days ago was not only unfortunate but also intolerable. PM Modi said that he, the people of Bihar, and any citizen of India would have never imagined such thinking.

This insult is not just of my mother—it is an insult to the mothers of the entire India.

Prime Minister Modi directly attacked the RJD-Congress alliance and said that the abuses hurled from their stage are an insult not just to his mother but to every Indian mother, sister, and daughter. He said that the pain he has felt from this insult is the same pain in the hearts of the people of Bihar.

Respect for mothers is paramount in Bihar’s culture

In his address, PM Modi said that in the culture and tradition of Bihar, special respect is given to “mother.” He said that the use of such abusive language is not only against him but also a direct attack on the basic spirit and civilization of Indian society. He said:

“In Indian culture, a mother is considered equal to God, and such words hurt our culture and values.”

Call for emotional connection and outrage from the public

Making an emotional connection with the public, Prime Minister Modi said that this issue is not political but emotional and moral. He said that every Indian should oppose such behavior so that in the future no person can behave in such an insulting manner against the women and mothers of the country.
