Tej Pratap Yadav distances himself from Tejashwi
Patna: Bihar politics is once again in turmoil. Tej Pratap Yadav, the elder son of former Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) minister and party supremo Lalu Prasad Yadav, has publicly distanced himself from his younger brother and Leader of the Opposition, Tejashwi Yadav. Tej Pratap has unfollowed Tejashwi from the social media platform 'X' (formerly Twitter). He has also previously unfollowed his elder sisters Misa Bharti and Hema Yadav. Now, his following list consists of only five names: his parents Lalu Yadav, Rabri Devi, and a sister, Raj Laxmi Yadav.
Political analysts believe that the tension between Tej Pratap and Tejashwi Yadav has now become public. Tej Pratap Yadav has made statements against Tejashwi several times in the past. Recently, when Tejashwi Yadav promised to provide a job to one member from every family, Tej Pratap sarcastically said, "First form the government, then make the promise."
Following his expulsion from the RJD, Tej Pratap Yadav has founded his new party, the Janshakti Janata Dal (JJD). He announced that he will release his party's candidate list on Monday on 13 October. He made it clear that he himself will contest the Mahua assembly seat, currently held by RJD leader Mukesh Kumar Roshan.
Tej Pratap says that leaders from several political parties are contacting him and that he will launch a "new politics" this time.
Bihar Elections 2025: What’s behind BJP’s impending NDA seat-sharing announcement?
On Saturday, at a public meeting held in Gaya's Wazirganj assembly constituency, Tej Pratap Yadav announced his first candidate. He declared Prem Kumar as the JJD candidate from Wazirganj. During this, Tej Pratap addressed the public from the stage in the style of his father Lalu Yadav, saying, "You are young, you are young... If you shout too much, your veins will burst." From the stage, he asked Prem Kumar to fold his hands and ask for public support.
This move by Tej Pratap Yadav clearly indicates that he is now attempting to emerge from the shadow of Tejashwi Yadav and establish his own political identity. With the announcement of candidates on 13 October, it will become clear how significant a challenge the JJD can pose in the Bihar elections.
