New Delhi: Senior diplomat Rudrendra Tandon (IFS: 1994 batch) has been appointed as Secretary (East) in the Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India.
The appointment was approved by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC), which has issued the official order in this regard.

Tandon, who is currently posted in cadre, is a seasoned diplomat with extensive experience in handling key foreign policy assignments. In his new role, he will oversee India’s diplomatic engagements in the eastern region, a portfolio that includes crucial ties with countries in East and Southeast Asia.

The appointment comes at a time when India is actively strengthening its strategic and economic partnerships in the Indo-Pacific region, making the role of Secretary (East) particularly significant in shaping foreign policy priorities.
Tandon, a 1994-batch Indian Foreign Service (IFS) officer, will take over the role from Periasamy Kumaran, who previously held the position.
As Secretary (East), Tandon will oversee India’s diplomatic engagements and strategic relations with countries in the eastern region, a critical portfolio within the Ministry of External Affairs.
