Three women from Arunachal Pradesh faced alleged racist abuse in Delhi’s Malviya Nagar after a dispute with neighbours. Arunachal CM Pema Khandu condemned the incident and said the accused are absconding but will be arrested soon.

New Delhi: A case of alleged racial harassment involving three women from Arunachal Pradesh in Delhi has sparked outrage, with political leaders demanding strict action against the accused. The incident reportedly took place in the Malviya Nagar area of the national capital and has raised fresh concerns about discrimination faced by people from the Northeast.
Chief Minister Pema Khandu strongly condemned the incident, calling it “shameful” and unacceptable in a diverse country like India.
According to officials, an FIR has been registered against two individuals- Harsh Singh and Ruby Jain who allegedly used racist remarks during an argument with the three women.

The Chief Minister said the accused are currently absconding but assured that they will be arrested soon. He also said he had spoken to the Delhi Police leadership and urged authorities to ensure swift action in the case.
Khandu added that the safety and dignity of citizens from Arunachal Pradesh remain a priority and that the state government is closely monitoring the developments.
The confrontation reportedly began on February 20 when the women called an electrician to install an air conditioner in their fourth-floor rented apartment.
During the installation work, debris from drilling fell to the floor below, leading to a disagreement with neighbours. According to the complaint, the argument escalated and the women were subjected to racist comments and intimidation.
One of the victims, a UPSC aspirant who has been living in the National Capital Region for over two years, said the situation escalated from a minor issue into verbal abuse.
Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia expressed deep concern over the incident and described the alleged harassment as deeply disturbing. He said discrimination against people from the Northeast cannot be tolerated and that their safety and dignity must be protected.

Other leaders who spoke out against the incident include N. Biren Singh, and Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi, who called for strict action against those responsible.
The incident has once again highlighted the challenges faced by people from northeastern states living in major Indian cities. Activists say such cases underline the need for greater awareness and stronger enforcement of laws against discrimination.
Authorities are continuing their investigation, while efforts are underway to trace and arrest the accused.
