Ghaziabad: A new twist has emerged in the cough syrup case in Ghaziabad. This network extends from North India to Bangladesh. However, Asif, a wanted man connected to the racket, has successfully evaded the law. He filed a petition in the Allahabad High Court and obtained a stay on his arrest. Ghaziabad police claim that Asif is a transporter. He used to supply bottles of codeine cough syrup to Bangladesh. Police were searching for Asif after the seizure of codeine cough syrup worth Rs 3.5 crore. Teams were conducting raids in various places to apprehend him.

Asif, a resident of Meerut, was wanted in this case and is currently living in Dubai. Asif managed to get a stay on his arrest while sitting thousands of kilometers away in Dubai. The fact that the accused in such a large-scale smuggling case obtained legal relief while living abroad raises serious questions about the depth and connections of the network.

In a media report, Asif stated that when he was in Meerut, he ran a transport business. His other brothers also drive vehicles. He came to Saudi Arabia in 2020. He also did a transport business there, but it didn't work out. Then he leased a hotel and is running it.

What is his connection?
During questioning, Saurav Tyagi revealed that cough syrup containing codeine is used for drug abuse in India and Bangladesh. Its sale is subject to several restrictions in India. Therefore, it is black marketed and smuggled. According to Saurav, the main kingpins of this operation are Asif and Wasim, who live in Meerut, and Shubham Jaiswal, a resident of Varanasi.

These three collect cough syrup from different parts of the country and send it to Bangladesh. First, the cough syrup is collected at warehouses in Delhi-NCR. From there, it is transported to warehouses in Bareilly and Gorakhpur. From there, on the instructions of Asif and Wasim, Saurav Tyagi sends trucks of cough syrup to several states, including Jharkhand, West Bengal, and Assam.
