Thane: Nearly 11 months after a 50-year-old Navi Mumbai resident went missing, police have arrested his wife and her alleged lover for allegedly murdering him, dismembering his body and dumping the remains in a forest to conceal the crime.
The case surfaced after the victim's brother questioned the circumstances surrounding his disappearance, leading investigators to uncover the alleged murder.
Police identified the deceased as Baliram Suryanath Kushwaha, a resident of Airoli in Navi Mumbai. He lived with his wife, Sunita (40), and their two children.

According to investigators, Sunita was allegedly involved in an extramarital relationship with Rahul Dashrath Prajapati (30), an autorickshaw driver. Police said Baliram had become aware of the relationship and objected to it, following which the two accused allegedly conspired to kill him.
Investigators said the incident took place on the night of August 9, 2025.
Police alleged that after sending the couple's children to stay with a relative, Sunita and Prajapati attacked Baliram while he was asleep. He was allegedly strangled before his throat was slit.
According to police, the accused allegedly dismembered the body into three parts to destroy evidence. The remains were packed into sacks and transported in an autorickshaw to the Gawli Dev hill forest in Navi Mumbai, where the body parts were discarded at different locations.
Following the incident, Sunita allegedly rented out the family's house and shifted with her children to Ghansoli.
The alleged murder remained undiscovered for several months until April this year, when Baliram's brother visited Sunita and reportedly became suspicious of her inconsistent explanations regarding his brother's whereabouts.

He subsequently filed a missing person's complaint, prompting a detailed investigation by the Rabale MIDC police.
Police said the accused frequently changed their mobile phones and SIM cards in an attempt to avoid detection. However, investigators relied on Call Detail Records (CDRs), which allegedly revealed regular communication between the two. During sustained questioning, both accused allegedly confessed to the crime.
The duo was arrested on Sunday and booked under Sections 103 (murder), 238 (causing disappearance of evidence) and 3(5) (common intention) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Police said some skeletal remains have been recovered from the Gawli Dev forest, while search operations are continuing to locate the remaining body parts.
