New Delhi: Two more people have been arrested in the mysterious death case of singer Zubeen Garg. Four people have been arrested so far since his death in Singapore.

In the latest action, his fellow musician Shekhar Jyoti Goswami and co-singer Amritprabha Mahant have been arrested. Both were in Singapore when Zubeen died.

Following Zubeen's death, his family alleged that his death was not due to drowning and appealed to security agencies for a thorough investigation.

The Assam government has also launched an investigation, promising to determine the cause of death and punish those responsible. These arrests are part of the investigation.

Why the Arrests

Police say the investigation has uncovered substantial evidence against the two, necessitating their arrest for further questioning.

Earlier on Wednesday, Zubeen's manager Siddharth Sharma and event organizer Shyamkanu Mahant were also arrested. He has been charged with conspiracy to commit murder and causing death by negligence under the Indian Penal Code (IPC). Section 103 of murder has now been added to the FIR, punishable by life imprisonment or death by hanging.

Investigation Team to Go to Singapore

The CID's Special Investigation Team (SIT), which is investigating the case, is preparing to travel to Singapore soon. The Singapore police have completed their post-mortem report and will hand it over directly to Zubin's family.

The report of the second post-mortem conducted in Guwahati is still awaited. Furthermore, an investigation is underway into Shyamkanu Mahanta's financial transactions. A search of his home yielded stamp papers from several companies and documents related to benami properties.

The entire case is in the news because the family of the accused, Shyamkanu Mahanta, is considered highly influential in Assamese politics. One of his brothers is a former Director General of Police (DGP), and another has served as the Chief Minister's Education Advisor. After the death of Zubeen Garg, more than 60 FIRs were registered across Assam, after which the matter has gained momentum.
