Greater Noida: The dowry murder case of a young girl named Nikki, which took place in Noida in the Gautam Buddh Nagar district of Uttar Pradesh, has sent shock and outrage across the country.
So far, four people, including the deceased's mother-in-law, Dayawati, have been arrested in this gruesome incident. The main accused, who is the victim's husband, Vipin Bhati, was arrested during a dramatic encounter.
Similarly, Nikki's brother-in-law and father-in-law were also apprehended from different places on August 25, 2025. The victim Nikki, who was a resident of Sirsa village, was a bright student and had completed her studies at DPS school.

She had also started a beauty parlor to support her family and herself after obtaining a B.A. degree. According to her family members, she was a self-reliant and self-respecting girl who did not want to be a burden on anyone. Unfortunately, her life became hell after marriage.
According to Nikki's father, Bhikhari Singh, he had raised his daughter with great love and married her into an affluent family. He also gave expensive gifts like a Scorpio car and a Bullet motorcycle at the wedding. But her in-laws' greed for dowry never ended, and they kept demanding more money and goods.

Nikki lost her life due to extreme harassment and pressure and was eventually burnt to death. In a shocking turn, husband Vipin wrote an emotional post on Instagram before his arrest, in which he claimed innocence and asked, "The world is calling me a murderer, Nikki. Why did you leave me?"
The post quickly went viral. Police recovered inflammable material from Vipin while arresting him, but he snatched a sub-inspector's pistol and fired at the police, in response to which the police shot him in the leg in self-defense, and he was hospitalized.
