New Delhi: Every woman dreams of becoming a mother. A woman keeps the baby in her womb for 9 months. When the baby is born, there is no limit to her happiness. Whenever a baby is born and cries for the first time, this moment is very special for every mother. But do you know why the baby cries (importance of newborn cry)? How do doctors understand from this that the baby is fine?

After birth, the baby starts breathing on its own, but before birth, when it is in the mother's womb, how does it stay alive? He neither breathes (How babies breathe in the womb) nor speaks, yet how does his body get everything it needs? Every parent should know the answers to these questions. When the child is in the mother's womb, his body gradually prepares for the outside world. But during this time his way of living is a little different. The mother's body takes care of his every need.

Our article today is also on this topic. To know about all this, we spoke to Dr. Akshay Budhraja, Senior Consultant and Head of Respiratory and Sleep Medicine, Aakash Healthcare. He has given detailed information about it. Let's know in detail -

The child does not use his lungs in the womb
The doctor told that the child does not use his lungs in the womb. Whatever oxygen he needs, it is completely available through the placenta. The oxygen present in the mother's blood reaches the child through the placenta and the umbilical cord. The umbilical cord acts as an important link. It not only gives oxygen, but also food and disease-protecting antibodies to the child.

Lack of oxygen is dangerous

Dr. Akshay Budhraja said that if the amount of oxygen in the umbilical cord decreases due to any reason, it is called fetal hypoxia. This can have a bad effect on the child's brain, heart and other parts of the body. Lack of oxygen can stop the development of the child. There may be problems at the time of delivery.

First breath and cry are important

The doctor says that the child takes the first breath (how do babies breathe after birth) within a few seconds of birth i.e. 8 seconds. This process is very important to fill air in his lungs. The child's cry (why do babies cry at birth) is a sign that his lungs have started working. If the child does not cry, the doctor immediately examines him. The doctor said that we clean the child's mouth and nose with a machine. We give him oxygen and also give CPR if needed.

Normal delivery is easy
When a child is born in a normal delivery, there is a little pressure on his chest, due to which the water present in his lungs comes out. But this does not happen in cesarean, also called C-section delivery. Therefore, some children may have some difficulty in breathing.

Oxygen therapy is needed at times
He also told that if the child is born prematurely, then his lungs are not fully developed. Therefore, he may have trouble breathing. Such children often need ventilator or oxygen therapy. He also informed that if the mother has asthma or any lung related disease, then it can affect the health of the child.

The first scream of the child is important
Therefore, it is important that the mother is checked regularly and her oxygen level remains fine. Even though the child may not breathe on his own in the womb, the oxygen received through the umbilical cord is the biggest need of his life. After birth, his first breath and first scream are the biggest signs of his arrival in this world.
