Bangladesh Air Force trainer jet crashes in Dhaka; At least one dead

Dhaka: A Bangladesh Air Force training aircraft crashed at a school campus in Uttara area here in Dhaka on Monday afternoon, said a military official according to military sources and fire service officials.

The aircraft crashed on the campus of the Milestone School and College.

In a statement public relations office of Bangladesh Army said that the crashed F-7 BGI aircraft belonged to the Air Force.

The Fire Official Lima Khan on phone said that at least one person died and four others were injured. Lima could not give any other details about the crash immediately.

At the time of the crash the students were present at the School and College.

Details are awaited.

According to some media reports, some eyewitnesse have shared a mumber of 'crash' videos on social media here. In the videos army personnel can be seen in rescue and relief operations. They are taking injured students to the hospital in Uttara.

As many as eight teams of fire service from Uttara, Tongi, Pallabi, Kurmitola, Mirpur and Purbachal are engaged in relief and rescue operations. The fate of the pilot of the plane, Mohammad Tauqeer Islam, is not yet clear whether he managed to get out before the air craft fell.

Deputy Police Commissioner

Deputy Police Commissioner of Uttara Division of DMP, Mohidul Islam, while talking to media said 'A training aircraft has crashed in the Milestone College area. Rescue operations are underway. Further information will be given later.'

Eyewitnesses Account

Among eyewitnesses was a physics teacher of Milestone College who said that when the plane hit the college campus, he was standing near the ten-storey college building. As soon as the craft crashed many teachers and other staff members rushed to rescue the students.

Teacher And Students Also Injured

Soon after that some Army personnel arrived followed by the fire service officials who also joined the rescue operation. The teacher further said that he also engaged in the resque operation and pulled out at least one injured student from the building. He said that many other students and a teacher were also severely burnt.

Some other witnesses said that a few Army personnel were carrying injured students in their arms to get rickshaws and other vehicles to take them to the hospital.
