Trump’s upcoming South Korea visit for the APEC summit could include key meetings with Xi Jinping and Kim Jong Un, amid rising US-China tensions and shifting global alliances.
New Delhi: Last August, an important meeting was held in Alaska between US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin with the aim of averting or resolving a possible war between the US and Russia. But this meeting was not successful, and did not reach any concrete result. After this, Trump also publicly criticized Putin.
After the talks with Russia failed, Trump is now planning to meet Chinese President Xi Jinping. Under this, Trump is going to visit South Korea in October, where he will participate in the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit. This conference will be held in the city of Gyeongju from the end of October to the beginning of November.

This visit is also considered important because during this time a bilateral meeting can take place between Trump and Xi Jinping. Although no final decision has been taken on this yet, White House officials are seriously considering the possibilities of this meeting. Earlier, Xi Jinping had invited Trump and his wife to visit China, which Trump has accepted, but the date has not been decided.
This possible meeting can prove to be important on issues like trade, defense cooperation and Chinese investment in America. Trump has earlier also tried to increase American investment during his visits to Saudi Arabia, Qatar and UAE.

Another big possibility in this visit of Trump is that he can also meet North Korean leader Kim Jong Un. South Korean President Lee Jae Myung had invited Trump to the APEC conference and said that this could also be a golden opportunity to talk to Kim. Trump also responded positively to this and said that he is ready to meet Kim.
This visit of Trump is taking place at a time when closeness between China, Russia, India and North Korea is seen increasing. Recently, Xi Jinping had invited Putin, Kim Jong Un and Narendra Modi to a military parade held in Beijing. Trump had reacted sharply to this on social media, although later he also called this program 'beautiful and impressive'.

The ongoing trade tension between America and China is also in the background of this visit. The Trump administration had imposed 145% duty (tariff) on goods coming from China in April, in response to which China imposed 125% duty on American goods. However, Trump has recently postponed the tariff hike till November through an order, so that the way for talks remains open.
This visit of Trump to South Korea is not limited to just a conference, but it can create new diplomatic equations in the whole of Asia. If Trump meets Xi Jinping and Kim Jong Un, it can bring a big stir in international politics. Now everyone's eyes are on whether these leaders meet or not, and if they do, what are their results.
