Dhaka: Concerns about the safety of Hindu minorities in Bangladesh continue to grow. Another Hindu youth was beaten to death in the Daganbhua area of Feni district. The deceased has been identified as 28-year-old Samir Das, who supported his family by driving a battery-operated auto-rickshaw. This incident is reported to be the eighth murder against the Hindu community in the past 25 days.
According to police, the attackers first brutally beat Samir Das and then killed him with the intention of robbing his auto-rickshaw. After the incident, the accused fled the scene with the auto-rickshaw. Police say robbery may be the primary motive for the murder, although other angles are also being investigated.
Family members said that when Samir did not return home at the appointed time on Sunday night, their family became concerned. A search was launched and the police were later informed. Samir's bloodied body was found on the roadside near South Karimpur Muhuri Bari at around 2 am. Upon receiving information, police arrived at the scene, took possession of the body, and sent it for a post-mortem examination.
Local police officials say that prima facie, this case appears to be a premeditated murder. The station in-charge stated that an FIR has been registered based on the family's complaint, and efforts are underway to identify the accused. CCTV cameras installed in the surrounding area are also being examined.
According to police and local sources, Samir Kumar Das was murdered on the evening of January 11th. He was a resident of Ramanandpur village in the Daganbhua area and was the eldest son of his parents. Following the incident, tension and fear have gripped the entire area.
