India-China Relations: Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi meets PM Modi, discusses strengthening relations

New Delhi: Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday evening, in which important talks took place towards further strengthening relations between the two countries. In this meeting, Wang Yi emphasised the ongoing improvements in India-China relations and the need to increase cooperation between the two countries.

Doval-Wang Meeting

Before meeting Prime Minister Modi, the 24th meeting of Special Representatives on the China-India border was held between Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Indian National Security Advisor Ajit Doval. According to the Chinese Foreign Ministry, in this meeting, the two leaders had an in-depth and comprehensive discussion about the border dispute and bilateral relations. Wang Yi said that the important consensus reached at the Kazan meeting between China and India has guided the two countries in improving relations and resolving the border issue.

Wang also said that now the relations between the two countries are moving in the right direction and the border situation is stabilising. He also pointed out that both India and China are developing countries with similar value systems and shared interests.

NSA Doval's Statement

NSA Ajit Doval said during the meeting that the meeting between Prime Minister Modi and President Xi Jinping in Kazan brought a positive turn in India-China relations. Doval also said that both the countries have made unprecedented progress in maintaining peace and harmony in the border area, and this has created new confidence in bilateral relations.

He also underlined that in the current international perspective, both the countries are facing common challenges, and therefore, it is of utmost importance for both the countries to enhance mutual understanding and cooperation.

Discussion On PM Modi's Participation in SCO Meeting
