India to resume tourist visas for Chinese citizens
New Delhi: The bitterness in the relations between India and China is now slowly melting. After a long gap of five years, India has resumed giving tourist visas to Chinese citizens. This step is being considered a big sign towards normalizing relations between the two countries. Especially after the violent clashes in the Galwan Valley, the sourness in the relations is now seen to be reducing.
Issuing visas was stopped in 2020
India had stopped giving tourist visas to Chinese citizens in the year 2020 during the Kovid-19 epidemic. Although later the restrictions related to the epidemic were lifted for many countries, but this ban continued for China. The major reason for this was the Indo-China military confrontation and tense situation in the eastern region of Ladakh. Now this ban has been lifted.
Meeting of Jaishankar and Wang Yi
This decision has been taken at a time when recently Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar had extensive talks with his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi in Beijing on July 14-15. Jaishankar had gone there to attend the meeting of the Foreign Ministers of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), but along with this he also met Chinese Vice President Han Zheng and emphasized on normalizing bilateral relations.
