Kuwait City: Kuwait authorities have released surveillance footage showing a drone strike on Terminal 1 of Kuwait International Airport, an incident that left one person dead and dozens injured. The attack, which occurred on June 3, also caused major structural damage and temporarily disrupted operations at the country’s busiest aviation hub.

The victim has been identified as an Indian national, confirmed by Indian officials. At least 63 people were reported injured in the incident as emergency teams rushed to evacuate passengers and airport staff.

Video Shows Explosion and Structural Damage

The footage, shared by Kuwait’s General Directorate of Civil Aviation on social media platform X, appears to capture the moment a projectile hits the terminal building. The impact triggers an explosion, followed by a partial collapse of the roof and immediate chaos inside the airport premises.

Authorities said the airport was forced to suspend operations briefly while safety assessments and rescue efforts were carried out.

Kuwait Calls It “Brutal Aggression”

In an official statement, the aviation authority described the strike as a “brutal Iranian aggression,” alleging that the attack involved drones targeting civilian infrastructure. Kuwait’s military also condemned the incident, calling it a criminal act and promising a full investigation.

The government maintains that the damage resulted from an Iranian drone strike aimed at the airport terminal.

Iran Rejects Allegations, Blames Missile Malfunction

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) denied deliberately targeting the airport. Iranian officials claimed the damage was caused by a malfunctioning US-made Patriot missile system that failed to intercept incoming projectiles and fell on the terminal area.

The competing accounts have further deepened tensions between Iran and the United States, already strained by ongoing regional hostilities.

India Extends Assistance After Citizen’s Death

India’s Ministry of External Affairs confirmed the death of an Indian national and said several others were injured. The Indian Embassy in Kuwait stated it is coordinating with local authorities to support the affected families and ensure medical assistance for the injured.

Rising Regional Concerns Over Escalation

The strike has raised fresh concerns over the vulnerability of Gulf states amid broader Iran-US tensions. Analysts say countries in the region, including Kuwait, remain exposed due to strategic infrastructure and the presence of foreign military assets.

The incident comes at a sensitive time, as international mediators continue efforts to maintain a fragile ceasefire following months of regional conflict.
