New Delhi: Turkey has launched an investigation into the plane crash that killed eight people, including Libya's military chief. The Turkish Ministry of Defense announced on Thursday that experts have begun examining the black box recovered from the plane crash in Turkey. The investigation is being conducted in cooperation with Libyan authorities.

The private jet carrying General Muhammad Ali Ahmed al-Haddad, the military chief of western Libya, four other military officers, and three crew members, crashed on Tuesday after taking off from Ankara, the Turkish capital. All those on board were killed.

Initial investigation reveals possible cause of the plane crash
According to an Associated Press report, Libyan authorities said the crash was caused by a technical malfunction in the aircraft. Al-Haddad was a top military commander in western Libya and played a key role in UN-mediated efforts to unify the Libyan army. The high-level Libyan delegation was returning to Tripoli, the Libyan capital, after holding defense talks in Ankara aimed at boosting military cooperation between Turkey and Libya.

According to Turkish Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya, the wreckage was scattered over an area of 3 square kilometers (more than one square mile), complicating rescue efforts. A delegation of 22 people, including five family members of those killed on board, arrived from Libya early Wednesday to assist with the investigation.
