Kathmandu: Nepal's interim Prime Minister Sushila Karki made important announcements in her address to the nation. She stated that elections will be held in Nepal by March 5th. She also announced lowering the voting age to 16. Previously, the minimum voting age in the country was 18.

In her address, Sushila Karki stated that the government has begun preparations in collaboration with Election Commission officials to conduct free, fair, and intimidation-free elections. Discussions have been held on the necessary manpower, budget, election materials, security, and legal arrangements.
She appealed to the public to maintain a peaceful environment so that the elections can be conducted successfully and fairly.
The Prime Minister stated that the current government cannot amend the Constitution or change the system of governance. These changes are only possible through the constitutional process of the new Parliament.
Recalling the role of the Gen-Z Movement, Karki said that this movement was not merely a protest, but a call for democracy and a fight against corruption. She saluted the youth of the Gen-Z generation who showed a new path for the country.

The interim Prime Minister stated that strict action will be taken against those responsible for the deaths of 74 people during the Gen-Z protests. She also stated that the government is committed to eliminating corruption, ensuring good governance, and improving service delivery in line with public expectations.
Karki appealed to all Nepali sisters and brothers to enthusiastically participate in the upcoming House of Representatives elections and elect representatives who can represent the aspirations of the youth. She also called on political parties, civil society, and the media to actively participate in free and fair elections.
