PM Modi meets Japanese PM Shigeru Ishiba in Tokyo; Strengthens bilateral ties

Prime Minister Modi said that today’s talks were meaningful and purposeful. As two large economies and vibrant democracies in the world, our partnership is important not only for both countries, but also for global peace and security.

Tokyo: Prime Minister Modi met Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba in Tokyo during his Japan visit, where the two leaders discussed further strengthening bilateral relations, including trade, investment and technical sectors, and exchanged several agreements. PM Modi said that the India-Japan partnership is based on deep mutual trust, which is a reflection of our national priorities and shared values.

Prime Minister Modi said that today's talks were meaningful and purposeful. As two large economies and vibrant democracies in the world, our partnership is important not only for both countries, but also for global peace and security. Strong democracies are natural partners in building a better world. Today we have started a new and golden chapter of our special strategic and global partnership. For the next decade, we have prepared a roadmap focusing on investment, innovation, economic security, environment, technology, health, mobility and people-to-people contact.

Japan To Invest In India

PM Modi said that Japan aims to invest 10 trillion yen in India in the next ten years. Special attention will be given to connecting small and medium enterprises and startups of both the countries. At the India-Japan Business Forum, Japanese companies were also asked to work under the principle of "Make in India, Make for the World".

He described the joint loan mechanism in the energy sector as a major achievement, which indicates the strength of the green partnership. Sustainable fuel initiative and battery supply chain partnership are also being launched. Economic security cooperation initiative will also be launched. Cooperation in high-tech areas is a priority, with work underway on Digital Partnership 2.0 and AI cooperation initiative. Semiconductors and rare metals mines are among our key agendas.

Pairing Japanese Technology and Indian Talent

PM Modi said that the pairing of Japanese technology and Indian talent is a winning one. Work is underway on the high-speed rail project, as well as rapid progress in sectors like ports, aviation and shipbuilding under next-generation mobility. The agreement between ISRO and JAXA for the Chandrayaan 5 mission was welcomed, which will symbolize humanity's progress in space.

He said that India and Japan have full commitment to a free, open, peaceful, prosperous and rule-based Indo-Pacific region. Both countries have common concerns on terrorism and cyber security. There are mutual interests in defence and maritime security. Cooperation in the field of defence industry and innovation will be further strengthened. Under human resource exchange, five lakh people will be exchanged in the next five years.
