New Delhi: US President Donald Trump has reacted sharply to a recent Chinese decision. He described China's new controls on the export of rare earth elements as "dangerous" and "hostile."

Trump's allegation

In a post on his social media platform, Truth Social, Trump wrote that China has become more "hostile" than ever before. He claimed that China has sent letters to several countries informing them of the strict controls on rare earth exports.

According to him, this move is aimed at disrupting the international market, which will impact the technology and energy industries worldwide. Trump warned that China will ultimately suffer the greatest losses.

Trump said, "There is no need to meet Xi Jinping now." Trump also made it clear that he is no longer interested in meeting Chinese President Xi Jinping.

Their meeting was supposed to take place at the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit, but it is now considered almost certain to be canceled.

Why is China so important?

Rare earth elements are rare metals used in smartphones, electric vehicles, missile systems, and green energy technologies. China is the largest producer and supplier of these elements.

Under China's new regulations, special approval will be required to export rare earth or products made from it. China claims this decision was taken under "national security" considerations.

However, the US believes this decision is a ploy to further strengthen China's control over the global technology supply chain.

US Warns China

Trump stated bluntly that the US is now preparing for an "economic counterattack." The biggest step in this will be increasing heavy tariffs (import taxes) on Chinese products.

Furthermore, the US is planning to make some tough strategic decisions. Trump also questioned why China made this decision on the same day as progress toward peace in the Middle East. He called it a political move and said it could not be a mere "coincidence."

China's new controls on rare earth exports have created further tension in US-China relations. Trump's strong response and potential tariff increases could have a major impact on global trade and the technology sector. This dispute is likely to escalate in the future.
