Iran rejects 45-day ceasefire proposal (Image: Internet)
Tehran: Iran has ruled out a temporary ceasefire in its ongoing conflict with the United States and Israel, stating that any pause in hostilities would be counterproductive.
Iran Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei said Tehran had already conveyed its position through intermediaries and made it clear that earlier proposals, including those from Washington, were unacceptable.
Baghaei emphasised that Iran is not opposed to ending the war but would only engage in negotiations based on its own conditions. He said previous US proposals, including a reported multi-point plan, were “excessive” and lacked logic.

He added that Iran’s response includes a set of demands focusing on ending regional conflict, ensuring secure navigation through the Strait of Hormuz, lifting sanctions, and rebuilding affected infrastructure.
Iran reiterated that diplomacy cannot take place under military pressure. Baghaei criticised threats of attacks on infrastructure, stating that negotiations are incompatible with ultimatums or warnings of war crimes.
The remarks follow recent statements by Donald Trump, who warned of potential strikes if Iran fails to comply with US demands, including reopening key maritime routes.
Iranian military officials have also indicated readiness for a prolonged conflict. Army spokesperson Mohammad Akraminia said operations would continue as long as political leadership deems necessary.
He added that Iran aims to ensure long-term security outcomes from the conflict, signalling no immediate willingness to de-escalate without firm guarantees.
Separately, armed forces spokesperson Ebrahim Zolfaghari warned that Iran would intensify its response if attacks on civilian targets persist. He said any further strikes could trigger retaliation on a significantly larger scale.
The developments highlight a deepening standoff, with both diplomatic and military signals suggesting that a resolution remains distant despite ongoing backchannel efforts.
