AIIMS launches AI-based App to improve mental health and stop suicidal thoughts

New Delhi: On the occasion of World Suicide Prevention Day, AIIMS Delhi has launched a special artificial intelligence-based Mental Health and Wellness app 'Never Alone'. This app has been especially prepared for college and university students to reduce suicide tendency in them and improve their mental health.

Design And Purpose Of App

According to Dr Nand Kumar, Professor of the Department of Psychiatry, AIIMS Delhi, the main focus of this app is on screening, intervention and post intervention follow up. Its purpose is to identify the mental problems of students, provide timely help and improve their mental health. The app uses Artificial Intelligence Technology that suggests a suitable solution by evaluating the level of trouble.

'Never Alone' is a web-based and highly secured app, which will be available 24 hours through WhatsApp. Students can get both virtual and offline mental health consultation through this platform. This facility has been introduced not only in AIIMS Delhi, but also at IHBAS at AIIMS Bhubaneswar and Shahdara, ensuring widespread access.

Pocket Friendly And Safe Model

Dr Kumar said that this app is very economical, which costs only 70 paise per student per day. This model will be made available free of cost in all AIIMS institutions of the country. The basic mental health screening through the app is completely personal and safe, allowing students to share their problems without any hesitation.

Given the increasing suicide cases in India, this app is an important initiative. Especially mental health problems are increasing rapidly in the youth and student category.
