New Delhi: Ahead of the upcoming three-tier panchayat elections in Uttar Pradesh, the State Election Commission has taken a big step. The commission has issued instructions to all the district magistrates to use Artificial Intelligence (AI) to identify duplicate voters.

With the help of this technology, those voters whose names are registered in more than one gram panchayat will be identified.

Duplicate voters will be removed from the list

On the basis of the report prepared with the help of AI, voters whose names are registered in two or more places will be removed from the voter list. For this work, BLOs (Booth Level Officers) have also been ordered to go door-to-door and verify.

The voter list will be purified based on the data collected by the BLOs. The Election Commission estimates that in this process about 1.25 crore voters can be removed from the list.

Akhilesh Yadav targets Election Commission

On this decision, Samajwadi Party (SP) President Akhilesh Yadav has taunted the Election Commission. He said that if the Commission can catch its "scam" with the help of AI technology, then why can't it answer the 18,000 affidavits given by SP?

Questions on social media

Akhilesh Yadav wrote on his X (formerly Twitter) account, "When the Jugaad Commission can catch its own scam of Rs 1.25 crore with AI, then why can't it answer the remaining 17986 affidavits after answering only 14 affidavits out of 18000 given by us?"

He alleges that a large number of SP supporters' names were removed from the list as part of a conspiracy in the 2022 elections.

Only 14 affidavits received an answer

The SP chief said that he had submitted a total of 18,000 affidavits to the Election Commission, which contained evidence of irregularities. But the Commission gave only partial and vague answers to 14 of these, while the other 17,986 affidavits were ignored.

Serious allegations against BJP and officials

Akhilesh Yadav alleged collusion between the Election Commission, BJP, and administrative officials and said that opposition votes are being deliberately cut. He has called it dangerous for democracy and raised questions on the fair election process.
