New Delhi: India's Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Anil Chauhan, stated that despite the rapidly increasing jointness between the Army, Navy, and Air Force, the three services will retain their distinct identities.

Referring to the excellent coordination demonstrated in Operation Sindoor, conducted after the Pahalgam attack, he stated that new capabilities, shared resources, and technology-based preparedness will give India an edge in future wars, where victory will be determined by smart and agile strategies.

CDS Chauhan made these remarks during a session of the Indian Military Heritage Festival held in New Delhi on November 14-15.

Regarding Operation Sindoor, General Chauhan stated that excellent coordination between the three services was evident during the recent Operation Sindoor.

He stated that between April 22 and May 7, significant military resources had to be shifted to the western border, and this task was accomplished with remarkable ease, at the level of just a single-star rank officer.

General Chauhan revealed this:
The CDS explained that the use of common equipment, such as MRSAM and BrahMos, is increasing across the three services, making integration easier. He also revealed that the Indian Navy also participated in these recent attacks and used its long-range loitering munitions, such as the PALM-400 and PALM-120. Interestingly, this capability was previously unknown to the Army and Air Force, but the Integrated Defence Staff (IDS) had it.

What General Chauhan said about future preparedness:
Discussing future preparedness, the CDS said that upon the formation of theater commands, staff at the joint headquarters will also be trained jointly to develop a "joint culture."

He also spoke about the changing nature of warfare, stating that understanding human geography is as important as physical geography, especially in combating terrorism and insurgency.

According to the CDS, victory in future wars will be achieved by those who can create disparities in new areas, such as space and technological domains.

He said that conventional warfare will always be difficult and involve high casualties, while warfare in new areas will be faster, smarter and technology-based.
