Assam Flood Fury: Death Toll Climbs To 95, Over 1.6 Lakh People Affected Across 14 Districts

New Delhi: The flood situation in Assam has worsened further as the death toll reached 95, with six more fatalities reported amid widespread destruction across several districts. More than 1.6 lakh people are currently affected as floodwaters continue to impact homes, farmland and public infrastructure.

According to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), the latest deaths were reported from Sivasagar, Biswanath, Golaghat and Morigaon districts. Two fatalities each were recorded in Sivasagar and Biswanath, while Golaghat and Morigaon reported one death each.

Sivasagar Emerges As Worst-Hit District

Sivasagar remains the worst-affected district in Assam, accounting for 50 of the total 95 deaths reported so far.

Neighbouring Charaideo has recorded 21 fatalities, followed by Jorhat with nine deaths and Golaghat with five. Other districts reporting flood-related deaths include Dhemaji, Karbi Anglong, Biswanath, Sonitpur, Kamrup Metropolitan and Morigaon.

The flood crisis has affected 14 districts, including Biswanath, Charaideo, Darrang, Dhemaji, Golaghat, Jorhat, Kamrup Metropolitan, Karbi Anglong, Lakhimpur, Nagaon, Sivasagar, Sonitpur, Tinsukia and Udalguri.

Over 44,000 People In Relief Camps

Authorities have intensified rescue and relief operations as thousands of residents remain displaced. More than 100 relief camps and distribution centres have been set up across six districts, where around 44,523 people are currently taking shelter.

Sivasagar has the highest number of affected people at nearly 57,000, followed by Golaghat with around 34,000 and Jorhat with approximately 25,000 affected residents.

JP Nadda Reviews Flood Situation With Himanta Biswa Sarma

Union Health Minister JP Nadda visited the flood-hit Nepalikhuti area in Sivasagar district along the Assam-Nagaland border to assess the ground situation.

After inspecting the devastation, Nadda held a high-level review meeting with Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and senior state officials to discuss rescue operations, healthcare arrangements and rehabilitation measures.

Nadda said the Centre and state government were working together to ensure timely assistance to affected families. He assured that there would be no shortage of support for relief and rehabilitation efforts, while central teams continue assessing the extent of damage caused by the floods.
