New Delhi: A very unfortunate and worrying attack was made on the Chief Minister of Delhi, Rekha Gupta, on Wednesday, 20th August morning. The incident took place at her official residence, which is located in the Civil Lines area of Delhi, at around 8 am.

The attack took place when she was conducting her monthly 'Jan Sunwai' program, where common people can meet her directly and tell her their problems without any hindrance.

The attacker has been identified as Rajesh Khimji. He is 41 years old and hails from the Rajkot district of Gujarat. He was arrested by the police immediately after the attack and is now being questioned.

According to information, he had already done a 'reconnaissance' of the Chief Minister's residence before the attack; that is, he had already been aware about the place and the security arrangements.

The method of attack was very deceptive. During the Jan Sunwai, the accused sat near the Chief Minister and started talking to her. He first gave her some papers and then suddenly attacked her.

According to the witnesses, a loud sound was heard, and the police immediately caught him. A Delhi government minister said that the accused grabbed the Chief Minister forcefully, threw her on the ground, and held her for a long time.

The Chief Minister has suffered head and shoulder injuries in this attack. Doctors have registered a medico-legal case (MLC) for her. Although her condition is said to be stable, she is shocked and nervous due to this incident.

All political parties have strongly condemned this entire incident in one voice. Aam Aadmi Party leader and former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said that there can be differences in democracy, but there is no place for violence.

The Delhi Congress President expressed concern that if the Chief Minister is not safe, then what will happen to the safety of the general public?

At the same time, the mother of the accused said that her son is an animal lover and he was very sad and angry with an issue going on in Delhi regarding dogs, due to which he came to Delhi to take this step. He also said that his son has no connection with any political party.

After this incident, the Delhi Police has increased the security of the Chief Minister and her office. The Union Home Ministry has also been informed about this.
