New Delhi: Three controversial bills introduced by Home Minister Amit Shah in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday led to a huge uproar, after which the proceedings of the House had to be adjourned. The most talked about among them was the Constitution (130th Amendment) Bill, which provides that if the Prime Minister, a Chief Minister, or a Minister remains in jail for 30 consecutive days on charges of a serious crime (which has a provision of punishment of 5 years or more), then he will have to step down from his post on the 31st day.

The opposition strongly opposed this bill. They alleged that this bill is against democratic values and can be used as a weapon by the government to target opposition leaders. The protest was so intense that some opposition MPs tore copies of the bill and threw them towards the Home Minister, causing chaos in the House.

TMC Women MPs accuse BJP MPs of assaulting and Pushing them in the Lok Sabha

After this uproar, another big controversy arose when two women MPs of Trinamool Congress (TMC), Mitali Bagh and Shatabdi Roy, made serious allegations against BJP's Union Minister Kiren Rijiju and MP Ravneet Singh Bittu of assaulting and pushing women MPs in the Lok Sabha itself. Mitali Bagh claimed that she was attacked and injured. She described the incident as 'shameful' and 'reprehensible.'

Amidst the uproar and allegations and counter-allegations, the House decided to send these three bills to a parliamentary joint committee on the proposal of the Home Minister. This 31-member committee (21 members of Lok Sabha and 10 members of Rajya Sabha) has to submit its report by the first week of the next Parliament session. This entire episode has once again exposed the deep differences and strained relations between the government and the opposition.

Shashi Tharoor justifies PM/CM removal bill on graft charges

Opposition alleges the 30-day custody removal rule could target non-BJP leaders through motivated arrests, undermining federalism and due process, while the government calls it an accountability measure. However, Senior Congress party leader and MP Shashi Tharoor has taken a different and logical view on this matter.
